New for 2019, the Freedom RDS is a game-changer when it comes to ruggedness and durability in a red dot sight. LEUPOLD, who has more than 70 years of experience in optics, has created a red dot that is hard as a rock and has an amazing price. Next, we are going to take a closer look at the features of this Freedom RDS.
Built for both shooters, hunters and tactical operators, the Freedom RDS is available in two distinct models: one with turrets with ¼ MOA precision adjustments and the other with a BDC elevation turret with precision adjustments out to 400 yards, for a standard cartridge in .223 rem caliber with a 55 grain tip.
Its main differential value compared to its competition is that it is designed to incorporate LEUPOLD's popular CDS (Custom Marking System), the BDC ballistic turret makes longer shots much easier to take. Once you've zeroed your rifle, you'll be able to reset the turret and then make shot adjustments in meters instead of MOAs. Therefore, if your target is 500 meters away, simply rotate the turret to the position with the number 5 and aim at the target. This allows you to make short-distance shots, typical of CQB (Close Quarter Battle) or like those that can be given in a hunt, and then quickly mark the position at 500 meters for longer and more precise shots. All this without worrying about having to aim over the target to compensate for the drop.
There is no problem installing the Freedom RDS on a rifle that uses other popular AR platform calibers, such as a 6.5 Creedmoor or .300 Blackout, the LEUPOLD custom shop can build you a new ballistic turret at the standard rate.
Unlike other red dots on the market, it has outstanding optical characteristics, retains amazing color fidelity, superior lens clarity, and maintains sharp image edges. The LEUPOLD Twilight Red Dot system helps you see more with less light. It is specially designed to operate in twilight, which is when many prey are within range.
For greater precision, it has a 1 MOA red dot. This is activated simply by pressing a button and provides a clear and precise system when aiming. This smaller dot is ideal for longer distance shooting, where a larger dot may cover too much of the target. As an added bonus, the RDS features LEUPOLD's Motion Sensor Technology (MST), which turns off the lighting after five minutes of inactivity. When the MST detects motion again, it instantly turns the lighting back on, so it's ready when you are. A manual mode also allows the headset to be turned off when not in use.
It is also possible to select from eight lighting settings, making the dot easily visible in low light conditions or midday sun. At the RDS's medium brightness setting, it provides up to 1,000 hours of battery life, which, thanks to the motion sensor technology mentioned above, is practically equivalent to 1,000 usable hours. The Freedom RDS is lightweight, compact, and ready for whatever purpose you have in mind. It features a 34mm lens and a main tube that measures just over five inches long (127mm), plus it weighs just under 200g. without rim.
Like all LEUPOLD products designed to be mounted on a firearm, the Freedom RDS is designed, machined and assembled in Beaverton, Oregon, and is built to withstand a lifetime of abusive treatment. With scratch-resistant lenses and 100% fog-proof and waterproof construction, the Freedom RDS is tried and tested on the "Punisher" in the harshest conditions, so it can withstand the most merciless use you're capable of giving it. . The "Punisher" is an exclusive LEUPOLD recoil simulation machine, which subjects each model to 5,000 impacts. Each impact has a force of three times the recoil of a .308 Win rifle.
The ultra-lightweight construction disperses recoil energy for class-leading durability, and because this scope is tested to the same exacting standards as military optics, you know it won't let you down. That said, if you ever have a problem, the Freedom RDS, like all Gold Ring products, is backed by LEUPOLD's legendary lifetime warranty.
Characteristics:
- Motion Sensor Technology (MST) . 1 MOA red dot with Motion Sensor Technology (MST). The MST system turns off the lighting after five minutes of inactivity and turns it back on at the first motion detection.
- Twilight Red Dot System . The Twilight Red Dot System helps you see more in less light, and also provides great color consistency and superior lens clarity.
- BDC turret . Designed to work with LEUPOLD's popular CDS (Custom Marking System), the BDC elevation turret makes longer shots much easier. Once you've zeroed your rifle, you'll be able to reset the turret and then make shot adjustments in meters instead of MOAs. Therefore, if your target is 500 meters away, simply turn the turret to position 5 and aim at the target.
- Guaranteed for life . Designed to withstand a lifetime of rough treatment, the Freedom RDS features scratch-resistant lenses, 100% fog-resistant and has waterproof construction. Plus, it has survived the "Punisher", meaning it is tested and verified to perform in the harshest conditions.
