The Opinel N°06 is the first medium knife from the French manufacturer, and also the first to be equipped with the traditional Viroblock safety ring lock . It incorporates a Sandvik 12C27 steel blade developed in Sweden, with beech wood handles and Clip Point blade profile .
The N°06 model is small, light and very practical for DIY activities, cardboard cutting or simply for use in day-to-day activities. In addition, the French developers have incorporated a security ring patented by themselves and which has high security.
Sandvik 12C27 steel
For the manufacture of the sheet of this Opinel Nº6 Stainless , a type of anticorrosive steel has been used thanks to the addition of chromium, which does not require any special maintenance. In addition, it has a high carbon content of at least 0.40% to obtain an excellent edge as a result.
This material has a microstructure of fine carbides to improve its high performance in relation to wear resistance. Its specific composition is 0.40% carbon, 13.5% chromium, 0.40% silicon and 0.40% manganese. Its hardness will reach 55HRC .
Viroblock block
The Opinel Nº06 knife incorporates a security system patented by Marcel Opinel in 1955 , and which consists of a security ring made of stainless steel , so it will be resistant to contact with ferrous elements and also to all types of hostile environments.
This technology is made up of a fixed part and a sliding part , and is capable of performing the locking action both when the knife is open and when it is closed . The user will be able to carry out all kinds of cuts without any risk, and will also be able to transport the part without the risk of accidental opening.
Clip Point Sheet Style
French developers at Opinel have developed a Bowie -style steel blade, which forms a very fine point, ideal for piercing objects or textures. In addition, this knife profile allows for increased control and strength on the part of the user.
The edge is straight, so the work surface is maximized and good results are obtained in large cuts, in a much cleaner way. The combination of the blade profile together with the characteristics of the edge make this small size knife a powerful weapon.
Beech Wood Scales
French designers frequently use this type of material to develop the ergonomic handles of their knives, just like the Inox Nº6 . The appearance of this natural wood has a homogeneous appearance and is recognizable by its presence with irregular grains .
The handle is varnished to be better protected against moisture and dirt. In addition, the structure is completely ergonomic, so it will respond effectively to the fatigue produced by constant use of the knife, as well as in extreme environmental conditions.
