The Opinel Nº5 is the last small knife in its family, and it has a Sandvik 12C27 steel blade , designed and developed in Sweden, with a size of 6 centimeters . With its traditional beech wood handle , it was the model preferred by the artist Pablo Picasso to sculpt his statuettes.

The small Opinel models are very useful for sewing, sculpting, making models or as paper cutters, which is why this Opinel Nº05 has historically been Picasso 's favorite model to develop part of his works. Its compact size, adjustable to the hand, guarantees a fine and quality work.

Sandvik 12C27 steel

For the manufacture of the blade of this Opinel Nº5 Stainless , a type of anticorrosive steel has been used thanks to the addition of chromium, which does not require any special maintenance. In addition, it has a high carbon content of at least 0.40% to obtain an excellent edge as a result.

This material has a microstructure of fine carbides to improve its high performance in relation to wear resistance. Its specific composition is 0.40% carbon, 13.5% chromium, 0.40% silicon and 0.40% manganese. Its hardness will reach 55HRC .

Clip Point Sheet Style

French developers at Opinel have developed a Bowie -style steel blade, which forms a very fine point, ideal for piercing objects or textures. In addition, this knife profile allows for increased control and strength on the part of the user.

The edge is straight, so the work surface is maximized and good results are obtained in large cuts, in a much cleaner way. The combination of the blade profile together with the characteristics of the edge make this small size knife a powerful weapon.

Beech Wood Scales

French designers frequently use this type of material to develop the ergonomic handles of their knives, just like the Inox Nº5 . The appearance of this natural wood has a homogeneous appearance and is recognizable by its presence with irregular grains .

The handle is varnished to be better protected against moisture and dirt. In addition, the structure is completely ergonomic, so it will respond effectively to the fatigue produced by constant use of the knife, as well as in extreme environmental conditions.
